Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.
Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone - one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship - tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next.
Now, Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.~Goodreads
HOLY FREX! This book was so damn good! It had just the right amount of sci-fi, suspense, and of course romance!
I honestly didn’t think I’d like this book as much as I did. I picked it up earlier this year and I could not bring myself to read beyond the first couple of chapters. But there was this little voice in my head that kept insisting that I give it another shot. So then my bestest bestie, Jena, lent me her copy and I devoured it in a day! What the frex? O_O How does that work!?
I absolutely loved Elder and Amy together! They come from these completely opposite worlds and totally different time periods so throughout the whole book they’re just trying to understand each other. And i really liked that their relationship grew slowly and naturally. Of course, they're put up against some other obstacles as well, like, i don't know, someone trying to murder all the other frozens aboard the ship! (DUDES! i had NO idea who it was! i was just as confused as Elder and Amy!)
Oh man, poor Amy! How bad would it suck to be conscious while frozen?! Ugh. Reading her thoughts made me feel claustrophobic! I also felt so bad that she got unplugged and her parents didn’t. I mean she’s basically all-alone on this huge spaceship where everyone thinks she’s a freak. Weeeell, maybe not everyone...
Elder & Harley are the only people on Godspeed who are sincerely interested in Amy. They kind of take responsibility for her and help her out. Amy consumes Elder’s thoughts from the very first moment he sees her and it’s rather adorable to watch him pine over her! His accent is also the cutest thing EVER! And he’s so caring and kind and smart and *sighs* he’s just sorta perfect! I really, really liked him and I can’t wait to see him take control over Godspeed in A Million Suns! (squeeee!)
But honestly I think my favorite character would have to be Harley! He’s so passionate and lively and friendly and talented! I just want to kiss him! Err...i mean...umm...I want to be his Little Fish! His muse for painting! Because that’s what he loves to do most! Oh my frex you guys! Towards the end?! Harley and the stars!? My. Heart. Broke. Into. Fifty. Thousand Pieces. *sniffle*
The ending of Across the Universe leaves us hanging a bit on not only the future of the ship but also the future of Elder and Amy’s relationship as well! GAH! I'm dying for A Million Suns!!
If you’re looking for a unique read that’s light on sci-fi, heavy on suspense and totally brill, Across the Universe is definitely for you!
Awesome review! :D Told ya you'd like it! ;) JK, but seriously, though, I'm really glad you did. *high fives*
