ROCKSTAR Blog Tour: THE DISAPPEARANCES Review +Giveaway!

About the book:
Title: The Disappearances
Author: Emily Bain Murphy
Publisher: HMH Teen
Pub. Date: July 4th, 2017
Formats: Hardcover, ebook, audiobook
What if the ordinary things in life suddenly…disappeared?

Aila Quinn’s mother, Juliet, has always been a mystery: vibrant yet guarded, she keeps her secrets beyond Aila’s reach. When Juliet dies, Aila and her younger brother Miles are sent to live in Sterling, a rural town far from home--and the place where Juliet grew up.

Sterling is a place with mysteries of its own. A place where the experiences that weave life together--scents of flowers and food, reflections from mirrors and lakes, even the ability to dream--vanish every seven years.

No one knows what caused these “Disappearances,” or what will slip away next. But Sterling always suspected that Juliet Quinn was somehow responsible--and Aila must bear the brunt of their blame while she follows the chain of literary clues her mother left behind.

As the next Disappearance nears, Aila begins to unravel the dual mystery of why the Disappearances happen and who her mother truly was. One thing is clear: Sterling isn’t going to hold on to anyone's secrets for long before it starts giving them up.~Goodreads

Review

The Disappearances surpassed my expectations and blew me away!

Emily's writing is absolutely gorgeous. This book flows from one chapter to the next with such ease it's impossible not to just sail through it. Emily's depictions are beautiful, vintage, and magical--I was IN the story. The overall world buliding is stunning, Sterling is such an incredibly unqiue setting and I loved it!

I adore Aila. She is such an emotionally layered charater. She is strong, smart, and resilient. Her interactions with her little brother Miles are heartwarming and, at times, frustrating--he is such a little dickens! Their banter is playful and cute yet they argue and say hateful things to one another--so utterly true of most sibling relationships. The family dynamics in this novel were incredible.

Don't even get me stared on how wonderful the Clifton's are! Such a loving and lovely family. Especially Will, swoony swoony Will. His intereactions with Aila are SO ADORABLE. Goodness gracious can you say SLOW BURN ROMANCE!?

Aila's friends are great as well, I LOVE Beas--she definitley needs her own novel! (Please, Emily, please!?) And George is a funny fellow-I could use some more of him too!

As for the disappearances themselves all I can say is, mezmerizing. How mind blowing would it be to have stars or smells or reflections completely vanish!? I was so anxious to learn what was going to disappear next and if a Variant could be found. (OMG--EMBERS ARE SO AMAZING!)

This town is pure magic, but it's not spells and potions, it's alchemy. Emily hit the nail on the head with bringing magic to the mundane! I HIGHLY recommend you add this one to your TBR--you will not be disappointed!
