Much Needed Rant

The Selection (The Selection, #1)I’m currently reading The Selection by Kiera Cass and I’m absolutely loving it! I’ve been updating my goodreads statuses like cRaZy because I’m laughing or gasping or swooning with every turn of the page! And I canNOT hold my excitement in!

So, when I went onto The Selection’s goodreads page and was browsing the reviews I was simply appalled. I heard about the whole “scandal” that went down with the agent/author/reviewer or whatever and, pardon my language, but who gives a fuck.

God, I am SO genuinely pissed off right now. People are saying that they’ll never read the book or that it’s now “shit listed” or that Kiera “ruined her whole career.” News flash people: The Selection is probably going to be a FUCKING HIT show on the CW. Not to mention that The Selection is book ONE in a trilogy, you dumb-asses. I think Kiera will do just fine.

Also. What the hell? You don’t make judgments on books based off of the ratings. You just don’t. Sure, I’ve been known to LOOK at the book’s average but that does not effect, in ANY WAY, if I pick up a book or not. Honestly.

Just like you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover? Don’t judge it by its rating. You should look at a book’s synopsis and see if it’s something that you’d really like, something that you’d want to read about. I REPEAT you should NOT judge a book solely on it’s effin’ rating.

Just because Sally Jane rates a book two stars, does not mean that the book sucks ass. It only sucks ass to Sally Jane.

Dude. You’re a member on goodreads. You obviously like reading. It’s about the books, the world building, the characters, THE STORYTELLING— NOT the author and the agent— you should already know this.

So I HIGHLY encourage people to un-“shitlist” The Selection because it’s pretty brilliant entertainment. (Key word: entertainment. Something done for enjoyment. Get your head out of your ass and read a book FOR. FUN. Because YOU. LOVE. To. Do. It. Not to bitch about an author.)

Sorry if you hate me now buuuut that’s wass-up!

~End rant~

btw- i personally love Kiera and think she's adorable! *waves*

  1. First of all.... YES.
    Second of all... YES.

God, I love this post! WHO GIVES A FUCK is right. I understand that everyone has different opinions of the book but don't bash a book based on its author. READ THE STORY first. Then if you don't like it... give it a bad rating. But there is NEVER any need for bashing.

I ADORED this book too Brooke baby! And I cannot wait for the next one! OR the CW series!! I am so excited'

And thank you for having the balls to post this. I love you. <3

You are the love of my life, but that's beside the point.

You just UNDERSTAND ME! Yes, read the story THEN and ONLY then can you rate/make a judgement on it! I probably shouldn't have been so upset about this buuuut i was. Still kind of am. But whatevs. Some peeps are just dumb.

ANYWAY! CAN WE PLEASE HAVE WEEKLY DATES AND WATCH THE SHOW TOGETHER?!!?

oh! And thanks for giving me the balls to post this! Love you! <3

  2. This is the first I've heard on any "scandal" concerning The Selection (haven't really been online much recently). That being said, I am still really excited to one day read The Selection.

Glad to hear that it sounds as good as I was hoping it will be. =)

  3. Haha I bet Sally Jane won't like this post lol but I agree.
I heard a little bit about the scandal but looked nothing into it gosh everybody has a bad day nothing to do with what the book is about people.

This one is still without a doubt on my wishlist.
    thanks for the post Brooke!

PS I know you said not to judge a book by the cover but I just can't help it this book is so pretty!

  4. So I just quickly jumped over to GR to see what you were talking about.. there was no way I was going to read almost 1500 comments but I got the gist of it. People freak out too easily over things. The one thing I didn't like is the author calling one of the readers a bitch.. that wasn't necessary. Everyone gets angry but when you are in the public spotlight like that, have some class. I will probably pick up the book when it comes out but who knows.

    1. Agreed. To both people freaking out WAY to easily and that people need to have class. Not even that, i'd settle for maturity. I feel as though some reviewers on goodreads are negative to be funny and get fans. Why the HELL read YA if you hate every single book in it? Makes no sense. Pisses me off too.

Anyway, if this book looks/sounds like something you'd like, i'd say you should DEFINITELY pick it up! It's really good. :)

  5. I'm so glad you made a post on this. It's like I so wanna bitch out all those people who rated it based on something from twitter without even reading the book! I think that is absolute bullshit! I never judge on how an author/agent acts or whatever. I mean if the book sounds interesting and great then I'm gonna read it!

To be honest I think they all are the ones being immature by rating a book without even reading it. But honestly if I commented on all their reviews going, "WTF?", It would be a battle I would not win so I don't even bother, I just go pass them all and send a mental fuck you comment in my mind.

Some people are just so immature sometimes. 8/

  6. *claps hands*

Excellent post Brooke!! I cannot wait to read it!! Bloggers should be mature enough to not judge the book based on what the author/agents said or did. People should enjoy the book, not ban it from their list because of something stupid!! I definitely cant wait until the book and the show! <3

    1. A million times yes! This!! Sometimes i just wanna scream, "IT'S NOT ABOUT THE AUTHOR!! IT'S ABOUT THE BOOK!!" gah... *shakes fists*

  7. You've convinced me to give this book a try. It was on a "will never read" list of mine on Goodreads, but not because of the author/blogger scandal. It's because it sounded really boring and superficial. And... several reviewers mentioned some things I would consider red flags, and I did not want to forget that I already knew it was something I did not want to read. So I put it on the dreaded list. Haha. BUT. I will try it! I'll wait a while, though, until I find it for a better price. I'm still a little scared of it. I'm trying to be brave, Brooke! I really am! :P

    1. That's fine though! Reading the synopsis and thinking it's boring or superficial and not for you? Totally understandable. But JUST reading neg reviews and making a decision based off of ratings and/or an author's actions, not ok. Unless of course you were directly targeted....then that would make sense. I'd boycott the bitch too! LOL!

Personally, the moment i read the synopsis for this book i wanted to read it. Bad. Because i'm really into storylines like this. I promise i'll still be your friend if you don't read it! :P

    2. Hehe. Well, you and several other friends of mine have shared the same opinion... and since I trust you peeps, I think I will try it. I was really leery of The Hunger Games too, and now I'm a major fangirl because my friends made me read it. I need to be pushed out of my comfort zone sometimes! Haha.

      Delete
    3. Ha, that's actually exactly why I marked it that way, too. My friend posted some quotes from the book in her review that just didn't sound like something I'd totally enjoy, so yeah. Good to see that I'm not alone in that decision!

      Delete
    4. Juli- shouldn't you at least *try* the book for yourself? Like a chapter or two? What if your friend picked the crappiest quotes? I'm just saying before you give it an absolute no, look into it some more. It's a really good book! And i wouldn't badger you if it wasn't! :)

  8. Well said! People really need to just not get their panties in a twist. And when people DO happen to get their panties in a twist, others shouldn't just jump on board and follow the bandwagon like little sheepels. I try to stay out of all the drama because I really don't want it to shape my opinions about authors/bloggers/publishers/books.

  9. Amen! I had to stop reading a lot of comments of my favorite books because people were so closed-minded and straight up mean.

    1. That's super smart! I should stop reading comments as well. I get so PISSED when people hate books i love and for some reason i can't get through my head that not everyone likes the same things! lol!

  10. You go girl! I read this book too and I was just browsing goodreads one day when I saw all the bad ratings and reviews and the whole Twitter mess-up, but I absolutely adore this book, and if the rest of the series is this good...well, I can't even explain it, but it's going to be amazing. Great rant :p

  12. Seriously! Couldn't believe the lengths people were going to get others not to read it. That's just messed up & kinda bullyish all in response to the actions of... uhh... not the author. Love your post! I'm really looking forward to this one-sounds really great!

    1. Also, I hate that people make these shitlists/will-never-read lists on GR... why even go through that trouble & just not add it to your shelf? I don't really see any purpose to it other than trying to hurt feelings (about something...they've.never.read.).

    2. THIS! THIS x 100,000!!! Why the HELL even add it at all! Oh, man! Excellent point!

  13. Way to tell them Brooke! I agree one hundred percent!! People must love to just start drama hah? Eh, mostly they who have put it on the "shitlist" just won't get to know what a great book it is right!?

Hahaha I love ya chica! You are never afraid to say it like it is and MAN! Did someone need to grow the balls (metaphor haha) and say something! Amen sista! <3
