Across the Universe by Beth Revis

Across the Universe (Across the Universe, #1)Across the Universe (AtU #1)
Author: Beth Revis
Publisher: Razorbill
Pages: 398
Rating: 4.5 Spacetastic Stars!
Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.

Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone - one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship - tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next.

Now, Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.~Goodreads
HOLY FREX! This book was so damn good! It had just the right amount of sci-fi, suspense, and of course romance!

I honestly didn’t think I’d like this book as much as I did. I picked it up earlier this year and I could not bring myself to read beyond the first couple of chapters. But there was this little voice in my head that kept insisting that I give it another shot. So then my bestest bestie, Jena, lent me her copy and I devoured it in a day!  What the frex? O_O How does that work!?

I absolutely loved Elder and Amy together! They come from these completely opposite worlds and totally different time periods so throughout the whole book they’re just trying to understand each other. And i really liked that their relationship grew slowly and naturally. Of course, they're put up against some other obstacles as well, like, i don't know, someone trying to murder all the other frozens aboard the ship! (DUDES! i had NO idea who it was! i was just as confused as Elder and Amy!)

Oh man, poor Amy! How bad would it suck to be conscious while frozen?! Ugh. Reading her thoughts made me feel claustrophobic! I also felt so bad that she got unplugged and her parents didn’t. I mean she’s basically all-alone on this huge spaceship where everyone thinks she’s a freak. Weeeell, maybe not everyone...

Elder & Harley are the only people on Godspeed who are sincerely interested in Amy. They kind of take responsibility for her and help her out. Amy consumes Elder’s thoughts from the very first moment he sees her and it’s rather adorable to watch him pine over her! His accent is also the cutest thing EVER! And he’s so caring and kind and smart and *sighs* he’s just sorta perfect! I really, really liked him and I can’t wait to see him take control over Godspeed in A Million Suns! (squeeee!)

But honestly I think my favorite character would have to be Harley! He’s so passionate and lively and friendly and talented! I just want to kiss him! Err...i mean...umm...I want to be his Little Fish! His muse for painting! Because that’s what he loves to do most! Oh my frex you guys! Towards the end?! Harley and the stars!? My. Heart. Broke. Into. Fifty. Thousand Pieces. *sniffle*

The ending of Across the Universe leaves us hanging a bit on not only the future of the ship but also the future of Elder and Amy’s relationship as well! GAH! I'm dying for A Million Suns!!

If you’re looking for a unique read that’s light on sci-fi, heavy on suspense and totally brill, Across the Universe is definitely for you!

Top 10 Characters of 2011

Sooo...I had NO idea what to write for this post! Do I pick the Top 10 characters I’d wanted to be best friends with? Who made me laugh? Favorite secondary characters? Most bad-ass characters? Characters who bugged the piss outta me?! Characters I wish I would’ve met this year?! What?! What!? WHAT!? I had NO idea! Sooo, I decided to go with favorite family members! WOOHOO!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Nathan and Andy (Lola and the Boy Next Door)- AHAHA!  LOLA'S DADS!!! OMG! They were probably my favoritest thing about this whole entire book! NO. LIE. They were super parental and totally funny and so FREAKIN’ cute! Pretty sure they’re the best parents I’ve ever read about! They should have a spin off! Between them teasing Lola and hounding her boyfriend Max, they always got me to laugh!
2. Natalie (Divergent)— Tris’s mom is magnificent! Honestly, if you read Divergent for one reason, read it to meet Tris’s mom! She’s so loyal and understanding and accepting and just...totally...mom-ish! I just wanted her to hug me! <- don’t laugh, it’s true! I loved her a TON!
3. Periwinkle Fern (Clarity)—Clarity’s older brother is extremely flirty and funny annnd he can summon and talk to the dead! How bomb is that!? I would totes date him in a heartbeat!
4. Ansel Tor (Nightshade Series)—He is the little brother I wish I had! He’s adorable and just this little ball of energy! (Well... at least he was in the first book) I just want to pick him up and squeeze him in a bear wolf hug! He's that darling! ha! Seriously.
5. Metias (Legend) –Even though we don’t know him for very long, he’s kind and protective and silly and everything you could want in an older brother! I wish there would've been more of him in Legend!
6. Tamra (Firelight)—Jace’s twin sister surprised me a TON in Vanish! I really grew to like her! She basically got awesome and became less of a snob!
7. Mickey Keeley (Shade)—For my soul mate’s older brother I only need to say three words: brooding—tortured—musician. *swoon* I love him to death and just wish he'd be happy! Here's hoping that he finds that in Shine!
8. Rachel (Forgive My Fins)—Lily’s aunt took on a huge responsibility by taking Lily in and letting her live on land. And not only does she become Lily's second mom, she also BAKES! Annnd THAT attracts Quince! Hur.RAH!
9. Georgia (Die For Me)—SHE IS EXACTLY LIKE MY SISTER! Holy snap! I swear they could pass as the same person! Georgia likes to go out and party and have fun, she likes to be the center of attention and she is never short on boys! But—she’ll be there to comfort her sister in a heartbeat and that’s what I like most about her! Family comes first!
10. Talon (Under the Never Sky)—Perry’s nephew is the sweetest little thing in the world. He looks up to Perry so much and it’s adorable. He also just wants his dad and uncle to get along and he tries to hard to please both of them. Yes, I like him a lot and hope to gosh he’s in the sequel some more!
Top 10 Book Boyfriends in 2011
WARNING: RANT BY A HUSSY AHEAD!
Logan Keeley (Shade/Shift)—Otherwise known as my fictional soul mate!  He’s pretty much sex in Vans & Cargos. Annnd he’s also the frontman of a band for crying out loud! Talk about sexy! But Logan’s more than good looks and amazing vocals, he’s just…incredible. He’s genuine and funny and caring—he takes everything to heart and even in death, he’s so full of life! *sobs* He also knows how to make me cry. I’m talkin’ a torrential down pour of tears, it’s a true gift that the boy has! Never have I been so obsessed infatuated IN LOVE with a fictional boy. He owns my heart and always will.
Peregrine (Under the Never Sky)— Even though he's a '12er, i HAD to pick him because Hot. Damn! This boy is seriously so freaking sexy. With his rugged exterior and tough guy personality he's sure to make you have a Peregasm! He knows how to handle a weapon, survive under the harshest of conditions and kiss like nobody’s business. *Sighs* And once you get to know him, he’s completely compassionate and sensitive and basically just everything you could ever want in a fictional love! HE. IS. HOT. AS. EFF. AND. I. WANT. TO. DO. INAPPROPRIATE. THINGS. TO. HIM. (Not ashamed.)
Day (Legend)—Oh, you cute criminal, you! Day is the most attractive 15 year old I have ever read about. And if that’s wrong of me to say/type, then I don’t want to be right! That is all.
Tod Hudson (Soul Screamer Series)—I would risk a brush with death just so Tod could swing by and perhaps reap my soul. Again, if that’s wrong I don’t want to be right! He’s sexy and sarcastic and amazing and if you-know-who decides she doesn’t want him, I’ll take him!
Quince Fletcher (Forgive My Fins)—One word: Motorcycle. Three Words: He rides one. UNFF! Quince is the sweetest bad boy you’ll ever meet. He dresses the part, acts the part, maybe even talks the part, but when it comes down to it, he’s nothing but a polite softie! Well, for the most part! Quince has impeccable timing and incredible comeback skills, which I happen to admire very much. Oh yeeah, and he’s built like a God! He. Is. So. Attractive. And. I. Want. To. Have. His. Babies. (Juuuust sayin’.)
Tucker Avery (Unearthly)—If you would’ve told me that I would fall for a cowboy early last year, I would’ve slapped you sideways. Cowboys are SOOO NOT my type, but Tucker definitely is! *wink*
Cassian (Vanish)— Never did I think my love for Will Sex Pot Rutledge could be rivaled by a Draki Dude, but holy snap, boy is it ever! Cassian is SO cocky and assertive yet totally charming and sweet! I’ll be so absolutely devastated if Jacinda doesn’t pick him. But then maybe, juuuust maybe, I’ll have to be the one to console him! ;)
Jules (Die For Me)— Jules is basically perfection! He’s extremely charming, incredibly talented and funny as hell. He kicks-ass, speaks French, and saves lives! Fun, Flirty and Foxy! What’s not to love!?
Alden Thomas (Shattered Souls)—He’s witty and gorgeous and protective! Not to mention he can make one hell of a cup of hot chocolate, take away your anxiety with a simple touch, annnnd would probably like being handcuffed. ---> *swoons* *drools* *dies*
Alex Kylar (Angel Burn)—He’s an angel killin’, fast drivin’, tatted up stud! GAH! Do I even have to continue!?
Honorable Mentions: Adam Kent (Shatter Me), Adam Wilde (Where She Went), Kaleb Ballard (Hourglass), Étienne St. Clair (Anna and the French Kiss), Four (Divergent), Rían DeRis (Carrier of the Mark), Haden Black (Falling Under), Gabriel (Wither),  Alex (Delirium), Theseus Cassio Lowood (Anna Dressed In Blood), Ethan (Wolfsbane), Cole (Everneath), Stalker (Enclave)...and...umm... like 60 other HOT A$$ boys I’ve read about!
The Raft"On the other hand, watching an entire series over a few days could be a letdown. Being so immersed in the characters and the story, kind of sleeping and eating them, it was even harder to come to an end, to know it was done."
GUYS. This totally happened to me once. Six years ago, 9th grade, I locked myself in my room and watch the whole first season of Supernatural straight through. And then I was depressed for days after I finished. I may have also cried because I knew I wouldn’t be able to marry Sam. But that’s beside the point! Sometimes it’s better just to watch a show week to week, kinda saves you some heartache I think!
Also, i just got to the part in this book where i'm scared and like, "OH SNAP!" Just to let you know! :)
Top 10 Books I’ve read in 2011
1. Legend by Marie Lu- DAY and JUNE! DAY and JUNE! I love, i love Day and June! Seriously, they are some of the most incredible characters i have ever read about! They are so kick-ass and smart and mature and GAH! I developed a crush on both of them. I loved this book so hard annnnnd i want the next one yesterday!
Shade (Shade, #1)2. Shade by Jeri Smith-Ready- *Sighs* Where do i even begin with this book? Shade was basically my life this year. I constantly carried it around with me, quoted it to random people, thought about it, cried over it, kissed it, and then cried over it some more. It will forever be one favoritest books. Logan Keeley. Do i HAVE to say anything else?
3. If I Die by Rachel Vincent- YESSSSSSSSH!! FINALLY! OMG! OMG!! OMG!! HURRAY!! It was meant to be! *SCREAMS!* Ooooh, Tod. *swoons* As of yet, this is BY FAR the best book in the Soul Screamers Series!
4. Unearthly by Cynthia Hand- This is possibly THE. BEST. Angel book i've ever read! The story wasn't bogged down with ridiculous angel lore and it was so much more than a "paranormal romance," i think that's what i liked best. Oh, yeah annd there's this boy named Tucker! 'Nuff said.
Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna, #1)5. Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake- Kick-ass-ghost-killing MC? Check. Ghost-who-kills-everyone-who-enters-her-house? Check. Blood and gore? Check. Snarky lines? Check. Adorable romance? CHECK. Yep. This book was phenomenal.
6. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi- ADAM FREAKIN' KENT! That is all.
7. Die For Me by Amy Plum- PARIS! JULES! PARIS! REVENANTS! JULES! The setting in Die For Me was absolutely breath-taking, and so was a certain character named Jules *wink* This book was romantical and kick-butt and just fantastic!
Where She Went (If I Stay, #2)8. Where She Went by Gayle Forman- *sniffle* My poor babe Adam! I don't even know how many times i've re-read this book-it's so incredible. I think having it told from Adam's P.O.V. (guys p.o.v. is the BEST! omg! *swoons* *drools* *dies*) is what makes this book so damn heartbreaking. The boy is completely broken and to read his thoughts...hurts my heart so. much. I'm glad the book ended how it did buuut I want more Adam & Mia!
9. Delirium by Lauren Oliver-  I stalked this book forever before it was released! When i first read the synopsis i was like, "WHAAA?! That is INSANE!" and then when it finally came out I bought myself a copy and just stared at. The original cover was soo prettyful to me and when i finally flipped it open i found out that the words inside were just as gorgeous! The story was fantastic and the ending....the ending...holy snap. Alex! *sobs*
Under the Never Sky10. Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi- I was not going to add this to the list because it's a 2012er BUT. OMG! I loved this book so much, i can't wait to buy it next week!! Ahh! Everthing about it was incredible! Peregrine, the Realms, Peregrine, the aether storms, Peregrine, smart eyes, Peregrine, *sighs* did i mention Peregrine!!? SQUEE! The boy is simply perfect. He's rugged and sexy and unff. I want to marry him. Oh! And the alternating P.O.V. between him and Aria was completely amazing-i already want the sequel! <3
Bloodrose By Andrea Cremer
Bloodrose (Nightshade, #3)
Bloodrose (Nightshade #3)
Author: Andrea Cremer
Publisher: Philomel
Pages: 414
Rating: 5 Stars!
Team: Renier! <3
The Ultimate Sacrifice.
Calla has always welcomed war. But now that the final battle is upon her, there’s more at stake than fighting. There’s saving Ren, even if it incurs Shay’s wrath. There’s keeping Ansel safe, even if he’s been branded a traitor. There’s proving herself as the pack’s alpha, facing unnamable horrors, and ridding the world of the Keepers’ magic once and for all. And then there’s deciding what to do when the war ends. If Calla makes it out alive, that is.
In the final installment of the Nightshade trilogy, New York Times bestselling author Andrea Cremer creates a novel with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat until its final pages. A dynamic end to this breathtaking trilogy.~Goodreads
THIS REVIEW IS SOME WHAT SPOILERY IF YOU HAVEN’T READ WOLFSBANE.
This book blew me away, it was fierce and heartbreaking and sexy and funny and just amazing.
Andrea Cremer’s imagery never fails to leave me breathless and in Bloodrose she does not disappoint! There were multiple locations in which the characters had to travel to and all of them were gorgeously described. I was totally amazed at the beauty and danger of each destination! Seriously! (UM. Two words: FIRE. WOLVES. Yeaaah. They were sweet as eff, yo!). Andrea knows when there needs to be a lengthy description or when there only needs to be a few words. Brilliant writing as always!
Now for the best part of this WHOLE. ENTIRE. SERIES. Ren. Renier Laroche. *sighs* He will ALWAYS be one of my favoritest fictional boys. Ever. The boy is too incredibly sexy for words. And he matures a ton in this book. He made me so proud! He was considerate and thoughtful and really showed what an amazing Alpha he could be. And oh my goodness! When he met Adne he was adorable! He took on the role of protective big brother so perfectly! GAH! Did I mention I love this boy!? I do, i do! SOOO MUCH!!
As for Shay, well, I despise Shay more than any other literary character. Ever. Sooo...yeeeeeah.
This book twisted my gut and made me feel so many...things. That’s what made it so incredible, that it could evoke so many emotions from me. I laughed, I screamed, I cried, I died. Yeah, there was a lot crying and OH! A lot of squeeing too because....
ETHAN & SABINE ARE PERFECTION AND THEY ARE THE CUTEST COUPLE EVER AND THEY MAKE ME SO HAPPY!! They saved this book for me! I NEED them to get a spin-off! AHH! How about a Searchers spin-off!? With Connor & Ande tooo! OMG! Who’s with me!?!
Annnyway, to me, this book DID have two major drawbacks. And I can’t tell you either one of them because they are GIGANTIC SPOILERS. Both of them are towards the end of the book and both of them deal with Calla’s love interests. Annnd that’s all I’ll say about that!
Dudes. After I finished the epilogue I was legit depressed for days! GAH. I suppose it was a fitting ending to Calla’s story though. I guess. I don't know, i'm still trying to figure out how i feel about it.
So even though this book definitely did NOT end how I would’ve liked it to, it was still amazing. I would be lying if I said this book wasn’t epic. Because it was totally epic. And if you liked the first two books in this series than you canNOT miss the conclusion!
P dot s- This book will leave scars on my heart forever!
TEAM REN FOREVER
Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver
Pandemonium (Delirium, #2)
Pandemonium (Delirium #2)
Author: Lauren Oliver
Publisher: HarperTeen
Pages: 375
Rating: 5 Stars!
Team: Alex!
Pandemonium continues Lena’s gripping story. After escaping from Portland, Maine, Lena makes it to the Wilds and becomes part of an Invalid community, where she transforms herself into a warrior for the resistance. A future without Alex is unimaginable, but Lena pushes forward and fights, both for him and for a world in which love is no longer considered a disease. Swept up in a volatile mix of revolutionaries and counterinsurgents, Lena struggles to survive—and wonders if she may be falling in love again.
Lauren Oliver delivers an electrifying follow-up to her acclaimed New York Times bestseller, Delirium. This riveting, brilliant novel crackles with the fire of fierce defiance, forbidden romance, and the sparks of a revolution about to ignite.~Goodreads
Pandemonium is a remarkable sequel that will stab you in the gut fifty thousand times, make you cry and also freak the eff out.
So many insane things happen in this book and if I told you any of them, I’d totally spoil it for you! I will, however, tell you that this book is told from Lena’s perspective during two different periods of time; one from when she was in the Wilds and the other from when she’s back in the city.
When Lena is in the Wilds she meets a clan of Invalids and i pretty much loved all of them! Raven, Tack, Blue and Hunter we my favorites!
Raven is this strong, independent leader who has this total badass vibe. But sometimes I wanted to smack her for being SO EXTREMELY insensitive toward Lena! Tack is sorta like the second in command. He’s a total tough guy and I would’ve loved to read more about him and his back story! Blue *sniffle* Blue’s whole story broke my heart. She was the sweetest little thing too! And lastly we have Hunter. And he had me on edge for awhile! I totally thought he’d become Lena’s new love interest. Every time they talked I was like this, “NO! NO! NO! Don’t talk to each other!! Taking leads to friendship and friendship leads to developing a crush and a crush leads to kissing!! AHHH! WHAT ABOUT ALEX! *sobs*” Don't worry though, we dodge the love bullet....with him. DUN DUN DUUUN...
We also meet a new character from the city....and that’s all I’ll say about that.
Fast forward one jailbreak, one underground shower, one almost kiss, one actual kiss and one almost execution later annnnd we reach the end.
HOLY. EFFIN’. SNAP!! I KNEW IT!! I KNEW IT!! OMG! Such an epic ending. That is all.
Lauren Oliver delivers another breath-taking novel with incredible prose, plot twists and an astounding ending. Man, does she know how to write a killer ending! Gah! If you loved Delirium, you’ll love Pandemonium!
P dot s- I missed Alex AND Hana so much in this book. :(
The Alchemy of Forever by Avery Williams
The Alchemy of ForeverThe Alchemy of Forever (Incarnation #1)
Author: Avery Williams
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Books For Young Readers
Pages: 256
Rating: 4.5 Stars!
Seraphina’s first love made her immortal…her second might get her killed.
Incarnation is a new series that introduces a fresh mythology perfect for fans of bestselling series like The Immortals by Alyson Noel and Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.
After spending six hundred years on earth, Seraphina Ames has seen it all. Eternal life provides her with the world’s riches, but at a very high price: innocent lives. Centuries ago, her boyfriend, Cyrus, discovered a method of alchemy that allows them to swap bodies with other humans, jumping from one vessel to the next, taking the human’s life in the process. No longer able to bear the guilt of what she’s done, Sera escapes from Cyrus and vows to never kill again.
Then sixteen-year-old Kailey Morgan gets into a horrific car accident right in front of her, and Sera accidentally takes over her body. For the first time, Sera finds herself enjoying the life of the person she’s inhabiting—and falls for the human boy who lives next door. But Cyrus will stop at nothing until she’s his again, and every moment she stays, she’s putting herself and the people she’s grown to care for in great danger. Will Sera have to give up the one thing that’s eluded her for centuries: true love?~Goodreads
This book was so flawlessly written. The pages and the chapters all blended together so incredibly well that it was basically impossible to put this book down! The writing and the descriptions in this book were so stunning and honestly gorgeous (even more so than the cover!)  I found myself rereading sections and pages 2 or 3 times.
I mean is this not an amazing excerpt:
“They say Halloween is a time when the veil over the world of the spirits is the thinnest, when ghosts can cross over and whisper in our ears or touch us on the cheek. I want to believe this—and I don’t.”
The imagery in that quote is...just...no words. I can’t even explain to you how much I love that quote! The writing style in The Alchemy of Forever has a very delicate feel to it. Almost like every word is very carefully placed to create a brilliant sentence. Or maybe that’s just the main character’s voice. Either way...I loved it.
We meet the main character, Seraphina, during a masquerade ball where her troubles all begin. There, she falls for the Alchemist’s son, Cyrus, and the rest is history. But I can’t blame her, I totally would’ve fallen for him too! His bright blonde hair, brilliant blue eyes, sweet smile, and witty remarks...*swoon!* But after Cyrus turns Sera into an Incarnate, he becomes extremely protective and overbearing (I still found him completely sexy. Evil, but totally sexy. Just sayin’!) He makes her feel trapped, constantly dictating everything her and the other Incarnates do.
Oh man! I wish there would’ve been more of the coven! Jared is described as a sexy pirate who acts as a bodyguard from time to time. And Sera’s best friend, Charlotte, was so adorably cute. From the little I read about the other Incarnates, I liked them a lot!
So anyway, after 600 years of being alive, Sera’s ready to be done. She’s ready to be done stealing innocent lives, dispersing souls and switching bodies, she doesn’t want to be trapped in this life anymore.
But things don’t go quite as planned and she ends up taking over Kailey Morgan’s body and life. And dudes, Kailey’s family is awesome! Her mom and dad are such....parents! I loved it. And her brother, Bryan, is hilarious! He’s constantly teasing her and she gives it right back. Bryan also likes Kailey’s best friend and he’s so adorable when he gets all flustered!  Yep. I love her brother. I basically loved all the boys in this book. What a surprise, right!? :P
The only thing I can complain about is that I wish the book would’ve been longer! The story unfolded so quickly, and I whipped through it so fast, I found myself wanting more! More details, more descriptions, more flashbacks, more Noah! Ah! Noah. He is the sweetest thing ever.
The ending was a complete SHOCKER! I honestly did NOT see it coming! (How did I miss that?!)
The Alchemy of Forever is an incredible, suspenseful, fast-paced debut and I canNOT wait to see how things play out in the second book!
Another quote I heart:
“I picture each life I’ve led like beads strung together on a necklace to make me who I am, the sum of all these jewels. And each shiny bead turned to a puff of smoke, a necklace made of ghosts, one bead for one lost girl.”
