Legend by Maire Lu

Legend (Legend, #1)
LEGEND (Legend #1)
Author: Marie Lu
Publisher: Putnam Juvenile
Pages: 306
Rating: 5 HUNDRED THOUSAND LEGENDARY STARS! No. Lie.
What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic's wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic's highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.

From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths - until the day June's brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family's survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias's death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.

Full of nonstop action, suspense, and romance, this novel is sure to move readers as much as it thrills.~Goodreads

One of my favorite things about LEGEND was the alternating POV between the two main characters, Day and June. (SQUEE! I LOVE THEM SO MUCH, OH MY GOSH, YOU DO NOT EVEN KNOW!! Ehem...) The shift in the narration was written so fantastically well and they both had such unique voices. I felt like I got to know both Day and June a million times better than if only one of them were to narrate.

*swoons* Day, the love of my life, he is in fact a legend. Seriously, he’s the most wanted criminal in the Republic(and i use that phrase loosely because I think that Day just embarrasses the Republic. He can out smart them...and that pisses them off. ha!) He's a bad-ass with a huge heart. He cares SO much about his family and the lengths that he’ll go to in order to protect them is amazing. GAH! And his use of dialect...*thud* i melt when he says, "yeah?" ZEEEP! I want to marry this boy! But he might just have feelings for our heroine...

JUNEBUG!! She is so effin’ adorable yet completely kick-ass. How does she do it?! Oh, yeah, she’s a prodigy! And she has this incredible sharpness to her that makes her the perfect person to go after Day (my her future husband, hopefully!) Even after everything she's been put through, she's still this incredibly compassionate person, and i admire that so much. OOh, and let's not forget that she can totally dominate a Skiz fight like nobody's business! *sighs* I love her...I want to be her...too much? :P

And once you get her and Day together!! OH MY GOODESS! They are witty, flirty, kick-ass prodigy perfection! GAH! The wine scene?! *INSERT FAN-GIRLY SQUEAL HERE!*

It's so easy to forget that they're ONLY 15! They both carry such heavy burdens through-out the book and they have to deal with this harsh government, yet they handle themselves with complete and utter courage. They are the most astounding 15 year olds i've ever come across!

GUYS! You don’t even understand (please go out and buy this book so you can understand...) I am obsessed with this book! And Day and June! And Batalla! And the Sectors! And holy crap this might just be one of the best dystopian novels I’ve ever read!

I really want to spill everything about the plot. Right. Now. And  I really want you to know what happened to Metias and why Thomas is a douche and why I hate Commander Jameson so much and why I want to cry when I think about Ollie and how June becomes the most amazing person at the end of the book! But I can’t. Because yoooou, my wondrous reader, need to pick up this book and find out for yourself!

LEGEND is a phenomenal debut! It will blow your mind, break your heart and have you DYING for the next installment! A MUST! MUST! MUST READ

  5. Seriously, you've got me drooling for Legend! And, like you, when an alternating POV is done well it can really add so much to the story/pacing. :)

  17. Love your enthusiasm for this book. I have several friends who've also read ARCs and thought it wsa amazing. I find myself continuously falling for fictional teenage guy, even though I'm, um, not a teenager by a decade (or more). So yeah, bring on swoon-worthy Day.
